The data below is what we found when checking an 8 GB flash drive that had been formatted as a single large FAT32 Volume by a Windows XP OS. ALL of the interpreted data under "Master Boot Record" is completely FALSE, since the drive does not even have an MBR sector! SI provides a clue near the end of its output where it staes it encountered an "Error 27" and couldn't access a sector referenced in the 'assumed' partition table. Sector Inspector does, however, provide a byte for byte view of Sector 0 (LBN 0) in which it's readily apparent that it is not an MBR sector! NOTE: So, according to SI, this flash drive has a capacity of: 974 x 255 x 63 = 15,647,310 sectors; or, 8,011,422,720 bytes. In reality, the drive actually contains: 8,015,314,944 bytes. Its LBA sector count: 15,654,912 sectors. However, if it were partitioned as a hard disk under Windows XP, you would no doubt end up with a drive having the stated CHS values; leaving 7,602 sectors of 'unpartitioned free space' at the end of the drive. =========================================================================== OUTPUT FROM SECTOR INSPECTOR FOR THIS FLASH DRIVE: =========================================================================== Target - \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE1 974 Cylinders 255 Heads 63 Sectors Per Track 512 BytesPerSector 11 MediaType =========================================================================== Master Boot Record =========================================================================== | B | FS TYPE | START | END | | | | F | (hex) | C H S| C H S| RELATIVE | TOTAL | =========================================================================== | | 72 | 357 116 40| 357 32 45| 778135908| 1141509631| | | 65 | 288 115 43| 367 114 50| 168689522| 1936028240| | | 79 | 366 32 33| 357 32 43| 1869881465| 1936028192| | | 0d | 372 97 50| 0 10 0| 2885681152| 55499| =========================================================================== Disk Signature 0x6f20736b LBN 0 [C 0, H 0, S 1] 0x0000 eb 58 90 4d 53 44 4f 53-35 2e 30 00 02 08 22 00 XMSDOS5.0...". 0x0010 02 00 00 00 00 f8 00 00-3f 00 ff 00 00 00 00 00 .......?...... 0x0020 00 e0 ee 00 9b 3b 00 00-00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 ..;.......... 0x0030 01 00 06 00 00 00 00 00-00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 0x0040 00 01 29 f3 a2 af 8c 4e-4f 20 4e 41 4d 45 20 20 ..)󢯌NO NAME 0x0050 20 20 46 41 54 33 32 20-20 20 33 c9 8e d1 bc f4 FAT32 3ɎѼ 0x0060 7b 8e c1 8e d9 bd 00 7c-88 4e 02 8a 56 40 b4 08 {ٽ.|N.V@. 0x0070 cd 13 73 05 b9 ff ff 8a-f1 66 0f b6 c6 40 66 0f s.f.@f. 0x0080 b6 d1 80 e2 3f f7 e2 86-cd c0 ed 06 41 66 0f b7 р?.Af. 0x0090 c9 66 f7 e1 66 89 46 f8-83 7e 16 00 75 38 83 7e ffF~.u8~ 0x00a0 2a 00 77 32 66 8b 46 1c-66 83 c0 0c bb 00 80 b9 *.w2fFf.. 0x00b0 01 00 e8 2b 00 e9 48 03-a0 fa 7d b4 7d 8b f0 ac ..+.H.}} 0x00c0 84 c0 74 17 3c ff 74 09-b4 0e bb 07 00 cd 10 eb t
